Why choose The Dawn for marijuana addiction treatment?

The Dawn features a licensed team of addiction counsellors with extensive experience and a 1:1 staff to client ratio. Our effective approach is non-religious, holistic and humanistic. We provide a highly-personalised and intensive treatment that is tailor-made to suit each individuals specific needs and comes with complementary therapies such as massage, acupuncture and reiki. We also offer private accommodation in a beautiful riverside-setting facility.

Private location

Inpatient rehab takes addicts away from their regular lives, which often involve triggers that cause them to use. Being away from places, people and situations that trigger marijuana use can help addicts focus on their recovery.

Lowered cravings

Days at inpatient rehab are packed with different activities, such as counselling and therapy, which can help reduce cravings, particularly during the beginning.

Intensive counselling

One-on-one and group counselling sessions are a great combination to achieving a successful recovery. Private counselling helps determine the personal problems, while group sessions allow members to learn from each other.

Round-the-clock care

Having experts, counsellors and staff available 24/7 can help addicts to overcome their cravings or emotional problems that may occur during treatment.

What methods are available for marijuana addiction treatment?

The Dawn uses our originally designed Twin Pillars approach as a primary treatment model. A vital component of our programme is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which is used to treat all types of addictions and mental health issues. MBCT allows clients to be more aware of their automatic thoughts and feelings, and accept them, without attaching or reacting to them. We combine MBCT with the renowned 12 Step method to make sure that our clients have the best chance of altering their behaviour and staying on track to lead happier and healthier lives.

Our treatment also addresses the root causes behind addiction in order to determine why it occurred, to begin with. This type of intervention focuses on identifying key triggers, developing positive thinking and emphasising the requirement for lifestyle discipline. All of our clients are also involved in one-on-one counselling, group therapy, physical exercise, creating a relapse prevention plan and holistic and alternative therapies.

What is marijuana addiction?

Many people are not aware that marijuana can actually be addictive. Advocates of medical marijuana and legalisation are quick to shut down any claims regarding its addictiveness, however, that does not change the fact that it is an addictive substance. Studies have found that one in eleven people who use marijuana will become addicted. Additionally, a young person who starts smoking marijuana during their teens has a one in six chance of developing marijuana addiction.

Even though some people can use marijuana without turning into an addict, users with existing vulnerabilities, such as genetic predisposition, mental illness and stress are at greater risk of drug dependency. Unlike other types of drug abuse, which can become clear with heavy use, marijuana addiction can take months or years to acquire and a user may not be aware that they have become an addict.

What are the health effects of cannabis addiction?

Marijuana can be taken in many ways, such as smoked, added to food, brewed into liquid or inhaled with a vaporiser. Regardless of how it enters the system, it affects almost all of the bodys organs, as well as the immune and nervous system. Smoking cannabis can increase heart rate by up to two times for as long as three hours, which is why some individuals have a heart attack immediately after marijuana use. It can also reduce blood pressure, increase bleeding and affect blood sugar levels.

Other physical health effects of cannabis include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Red eyes
  • Dilated pupils
  • Breathing problems

Long-term marijuana users can also experience physical withdrawal symptoms when they stop, such as sleeplessness, irritability, cravings and reduced appetite.

What are the marijuana addiction symptoms?

Behavioural marijuana addiction symptoms include:

  • Distorted views
  • Lessened coordination
  • Problem-solving and thinking difficulty
  • Ongoing issues with memory and learning
  • Fear, paranoia and anxiety
  • Increased appetite
  • Reduced reaction time

Is marijuana detox required?

Detox is not required for marijuana addicts. Patients may be given anti-anxiety drugs if they experience psychosis.
